Os Escândalos de Somerton · Ava Devlin · English → Brazilian Portuguese
Distinct titles. A recognizable series.
The editorial challenge
A translated title needs to give a book its own identity. Across a series, readers also need recognizable names and terms as they move between book descriptions and the editions themselves.
Editorial decisions
Four Somerton titles were translated into Brazilian Portuguese. During title review, wording already used for another book was avoided; the subsequent recommendation, O Canalha e a Socialite, matches the listed Portuguese edition. Four Portuguese blurbs were also prepared around the established titles and terminology, with the series description adjusted to reflect the four-book set.
The MAQUINE approach
For your series, we can examine what gives each book its own identity and what should remain recognizable across the collection. Translation and book-description adaptation can then be discussed together, with continuity and scope defined around your project.
Start with a brief project description and an approximate word count, or say the count is unknown. No manuscript is needed for the first contact.
